The desert starts almost as soon as the resorts end, which is why a safari of some kind is on most Hurghada itineraries. Here's how the main formats differ.
Quad bike safaris

Dune buggy safaris
Similar territory, different vehicle — buggies are a bit more stable at speed than quads and can be more comfortable for less confident riders.
Dirt bike (motocross) safaris

Camel and horse rides
For a quieter, slower-paced alternative: a daytime desert horse ride or a sunset beach ride if you'd rather stay near the coast.

Practical tips
- Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended for quad/buggy/dirt bike safaris
- Cover exposed skin — dust and sun exposure add up quickly
- Afternoon and evening departures avoid the hottest part of the day, especially in summer
